Kunst in der Zwicky Art Exhibition

To Become or To Pass

The Art exhibition “Kunst in der Zwicky” took place May 28th~June 6th, 2010, in a former factory hall that our community government had transformed into a cultural center. Artists living or working in Fällanden, Switzerland (to which Benglen belongs to) were invited to participate. 34 artists profited of the possibility to show their paintings or sculpture. Only art, no craft was accepted for the exhibit. To avoid the possible rejection of my dolls, I submitted them not as dolls, but as “multi media figures”. Once they were professionally presented, nobody opposed. The artwork was well received by the audience. Continue reading

First Nations Exhibit Exceeds Expectations

Hey… the Whitehorse Yukon Territory exhibition of northern Native (aka First Nations) dolls from Canada was super… Especially the Athapaskan work which is so rare. There is a decent exhibition catalog so the photos I took were of details that the one or two each doll got in the publication, didn’t show… With these figures, most collectors are very interested in footwear and the level of detail in the construction. A Religious Experience

The Germanisches Nationalmuseum

In the summer of 1993, Peter and I traveled to Würzburg Germany to visit his parents, who had the year before to retired to the homeland. He had made this trip many times in his childhood, and even spent a year in school. This was my first trip to Europe and only seen castles in photo books, I had no idea this experience would have such a strong influence on my creative expression and how my dormant Catholic roots were still very much alive. NIADA 2010: Chicago Events

The NIADA 2010 Annual Conference was held this summer at the Swissötel in Chicago, a short distance from the Hyatt Regency where UFDC members had gathered for their yearly convention. We all enjoyed the demos, flea market finds, and those fabulous Nancy Wiley souvenirs we all received at Tuesday night’s banquet.
