Doll & Teddy Bear Artists and Collectors Convention
NIADA Patrons Susan and Terry Quinlan have created a very special event for Doll & Teddy bear artists and Collectors in Philadelphia. May 12th -14th at the Ramada Airport Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.

The convention has three purposes: (1) to recognize the contribution of Helen Bullard (NIADA founder) to the artist doll world and the contribution of Beverly Matteson Port to the artist teddy bear world, (2) to express appreciation to the artists and collectors for their contribution to the doll and teddy bear world, and (3) to stimulate interest in dolls and teddy bears among today’s younger generation. This event turns back the clock to those days when things were affordable and really fun to attend

Micalyne with doll of her Grandmother Cecelia Kunz

Juneau City Museum Receives a Tlingit Revered Elder Doll

As a thanks to the family for their permission to work with clan crests, stories and images of their revered elder, Mary Ellen made a doll of local family spokesperson, Ed Kunz and surprised the family with it. He had, coincidentally, brought the 1905 regalia that the doll was wearing (from an early photo of Ed with his traditional dance group) and Ed slipped the tunic and mittens on.

The artist is now aware of the work that awaits her to complete his miniature tunic but this also means a continuing connection with this wonderful family. Continue reading
